Those anniversay maple leafs
I bought one of those 25th anniversay 2004 1 oz canadian maple leafs MS 70 coins not too long ago. Paid about $750. Do you guys think something like that is a good investment? I see people selling them for $1100 now but I'm still not sure that it will gain much numismatic value even though there are only 10,000. Got carried away one night when I ordered it. Any thoughts?
Also - has anyone heard what the new 24kt "Gold Eagles" will be called? Thanks. |

You have wasted your money on Numismatics. True it is going to be a pretty piece for many years to come. True the coin dealer also has a family to feed. But in my opinion you wasted your money! I would not buy any more at those prices... My local dealer in North Seattle charges me $18.00 over spot for every Maple Leaf that I buy from him. And I get to see it before I buy it and I drive home happy every time. :driver: You can't beat that spread by ordering over the internet. Because by the time you have paid postage (two ways), insurance, cost of the cashiers check etc. you are looking at a cost of about $25.00 over spot per ounce for Gold Maple Leafs. I would stay away from Numismatic Bullion Coins. You should be paying around 5% over spot for your gold Maple Leafs. MLS |
Re: Those anniversay maple leafs
I would have to agree that the money could have obtained better value. If it's numismatic gold you wanted that could have purchased a common date MS63 Liberty double, single eagle, an Indian Eagle or if it's maximum weight 6 BU British Sovereigns (a little better than 1.3 ounces) and some change back. Another good choice would be a CC minted Morgan silver dollar in MS65 or better condition. Any of these will go up far faster than the 25 year leaf even in MS70. Live and learn I guess, hope you only bought one and got a nice purple felt lined presentation box with it. As a symbolic gesture from the seller.......Royal colors for the Royal treatment.
:offtopic: MLS that North Seattle coin store wouldn't have a bid board and a handy State liquor store across the parking lot would it ? If so maybe I'll see you there some time aye? One stop shopping for those days you need a quick ounce and a fifth of Jack Daniel's. I'll be the middle aged guy with thin hair that looks like he can't afford to shop there. |

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought. Thanks guys.
Has anyone heard what the new 24kt american bullion will be called? Have they decided on a name yet or come up with candidates? Thanks. |

Expect to pay about $50.00 - $60.00 over spot for each one of them beauties when they first come out. So if you want 24K bullion coins with low 5% transaction costs then stick with the Maple Leafs. MLS |
Re: Those anniversay maple leafs
I just want to know if anyone knows the name or potential name of it. Thanks for the advice though.
Does anyone know? Thanks. |
Re: Those anniversay maple leafs
They could call it EASY DENT! But they will increase the demand and knowledge of the gold bullion coin. Thank the LORD.
AS The Gold Maple Leafs scratch easy - they do - so will the new US 24 kt. jobber. The Maples sure are PRETTY though. Oh, yes, just Drop a Maple Leaf and see how it dents. Give me the old fashioned 90% - ONE ounce - gold Eagles any day, yep, every day. |
